Sorry it has taken me a while to respond. I have been out of my research mode for awhile due to medical concerns.
I am still stuck on my Joseph Thomas. I have several marriage records of his children which indicate his birth county as Madison. I know that his wife, Casandra Hudson (I am assuming they were married, I have yet to find a marriage record in any county in Va.) is in Amherst Co. in 1850 with two of their children, and Cassandra is living at the Arrington Depot(Nelson County, Va.) in the 1860 Census with four of the children. This leads me to believe that Joseph(or Job) was connected with the railroad. (The Orange and Alexander line ran through Arrington, Va. at that time).
Family legand states that Joseph joined up with his two son in the CSA and that he never returned, but went to the eastern part of Va. married and had additional children.
The only reference I have been able to find of him is on the tax records of Amherst County in 1843.
I am still dumbfounded where this line is concerned.
