States: Virginia: Lunenburg
Based on my research in SWVA, you will see a number or variant spellings of this name. For example: Coger, Cogar, Kogar, Koger, Koker. In some areas, it may also be a variant of Cowger or Cowgar.
You will find this name in old Augusta Co, later Rockingham Co. Chalkley has a few references.
One John Michael Coger obtained a land grant near one of my ancestral lines, on Rock Creek, a branch of New River, in now Grayson County. I am not convinced he is of the same line as the Kogers in what was later Henry County (probably ties into the Lunenburg reference?)
