A Duda fellow has transcribed book Sunlight on the Southside which has some selected early tithe lists in it. Go to: http://www.usgwarchives.org/va/lunenburg.htm and scroll down to near the bottom of the page. You'll see once you get there. The originial early Lunenburg Co tithe lists are hidden away in some filing cabinet in a courthouse office! They are NOT available to the public because of their frail condition. A member of the Southside Gen Soc is attempting to transcribe them all but instead of putting his transcriptions on-line he is putting the lists on a CD and selling them. These extremely important records should have been transferred to the Library of Virginia a long time ago. At the very least if possible records should be digitally photographed and/or restored and/or all contents placed on-line for public use. However, the county officials seem to believe it is okay that these records rot away to nothingness. Notify Administrator about this message?
