Court Orders

What age would a young man have been to have been ordered by the court to clear and maintain the road? "At a court held on March 8, 1754 in Lunenburg Co., Va. John Adkins and two of his sons, William and Benjamin, were ordered to clear and maintain the road". Benjamin was born about 1726 and I don't know about William. Did he have to be 21 to be ordered by the court? Thanks for your help. M. Stroud
