Leonard,
do you think your John C. JOHNSON b1799 VA and my Claiborne B. JOHNSON b1805 VA could be brothers?

What counties have you found John in?

My Claiborne B. JOHNSON married Nancy THOMAS in 1821, Lunenburg County, VA.
On November 29, 1821, Claiborne purchased items from the estate of Sterling CABINESS while residing in Lunenburg County, VA.
On December 4, 1824, Claiborne purchased items from the estate of Harris TOMLINSON, Lunenburg County, VA.
According to the Personal Property Tax Lists for Lunenburg County, VA, Claiborne resided there in 1820, 1821 and 1822. There was no record for 1824 to coincide with the deed record stated above.
Claiborne is found again in the Personal Property Tax Lists for Mecklenburg County, VA for the period 1830-1838 except for 1833.
We then find him in Franklin County, VA for the period of 1840 through 1854, except for 1844.
Claiborne is last enumerated on the 1850 Franklin County, VA census. Since only his wife, Nancy, is enumerated on the 1860 Pettis County, MO census with her son, James M., it is concluded that Claiborne died between 1854 and 1860 either in Virginia, while in transit to Missouri, or in Missouri.

Does any of this work with what you know about John?

Kathy
