Do you have any evidence that some of your Scotts moved into NC by 1780? I have a Wm. Scott, b. 1782 NC whom I feel sure was from the southern part of Virginia. His first m. ca. 1800 was to a dau. of Thos. Ayers of Patrick Co., VA, formerly of Pittsylvania Co., VA. There may be a connection to the Scotts in Halifax Co., VA. Wm. may have a brother, John, b. 1780 who m. Katherine Anderson. Wm. Scott's 2nd m. was to Celia Conn 1809 Wayne Co., KY.
