I just saw your message about Thomas Pettus of Lunenburg County, Virginia. He was my ggggg-gf. Have you seen Acklen's Tennessee Cousins (ca. 1938)? It has information from a family bible with Thomas's and Amey's dates of birth, marriage, and Amey's death (as I recall). She did predecease Thomas. So far as I know, Thomas did not have the rank of colonel or any other military rank. There was an immigrant Thomas Pettus (ca. 1637) who was appointed to the Virginia Council of State and held the ranks of captain and colonel of the militia. You mentioned him in your message; however, I don't believe that he was the great-gf of Thomas Pettus of Lunenburg County. My theory is that Thomas Pettus of Lunenburg Co. was descended from Stephen Pettus who settled in New Kent Co. in the mid-17th C.
