I am researching the Hughes family who were in the New Kent/Hanover area. I have traced my Hughes family to Tuckahoe Creek area of Henrico from about 1697. My Hughes family apparently moved on to Albemarle, Buckinhgam, Amherst and Nelson Counties. My earliest known ancestor is Edward Hughes. His son was Thomas Hughes, Sr. We believe Edward was married to a Elizabeth Skiffen who was possibly married to a Anderson. I believe Thomas Hughes, Sr., married first a Sarah Perkins and second Mary Giles Harding. In about 1750 there was a William Hughes in Louisa County who married Susannah Bowles. I've found several connections with the Hughes who were on the Northern side of the James River and the Louisa County Hughes. I've researched these families for years, and always thought the names of the Louisa County Hughes and my Hughes family in Henrico were similar. Although there are connections between my Edward Hughes and the Rees Hughes family of New Kent County, the DNA is not matching. If there are any William Hughes/Susannah Bowles descendants who have good research for their line and who might be willing to do the simple, private dna test, please email me. We may be able to work out something on payment of the test. My email is vapsmith@yahoo.com. Virginia Phillips-Smith Hughes Researcher Notify Administrator about this message?
