I saw your post on Genforum and also noticed that you are from Guntersville, AL. I am descended from Edward Garrett of New Kent, VA. My connection comes from George Hughes who married Rhoda Garrett. If you go to RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Global Search you will find information about the family. If you are carried to the search page, put in the name Hughes and George with spouse Rhoda Garrett and it should open for you. The Garrett family is well documented and the interesting thing is your location. Many of the descendants of the Hughes and Garrett families settled in Marshall County, AL. My gggrandfather William H. Hughes was living in Marshall County in 1850 and his mother, Rhoda Garrett Hughes, lived in the household. She was past 80 at the time. I would like to hear from you if you are from this same family. They started out in New Kent, VA and moved to Fluvanna Co. (I think) From there they moved to Laurens, SC and later on to AL. The Hughes and Garretts followed this same pattern.
Jan Hughes Smith
