In Reply to: VARNEY 1850-90, Hamilton, Loudoun Co. by John W. Varney of 1800

Did a few checks on this family when I was researching the Arnett's. In a the Arnett Family Bible Maria Varney's death is listed as died October 12, 1859 in her 57th year. Further research found her to be the wife of William Varney. Speculation in the family is that she was the mother of Ann E. "Nancy" (Cummins) Arnett (1831-1906), wife of Samuel Arnett (my gg-grandparents). William & Maria Varney were listed in Loudoun Co VA 1850 census w/son John William age 7. (William is listed as born in England and occupied as a tailor- relates to Joan's findings). His son John William Varney married Mary E. Urback. They were members of the Harmony Methodist Church in Hamilton and I believe you can find records of their children there.

Descendants of William Varney
       1        William Varney       1806 - 1853
.              +Maria ?       1803 - 1859
........       2        John William Varney       1845 -
