I contacted Duane Bristow about this. Someone started the connection of William Bristow, who married Margaret Powell, as the son of Jedediah and others copied it as a fact. If this were true, William would have been only 9 years old, when he married Margaret Powell (1767) and just 10 years old, when his first son, Benjamin, was born (ca. 1768). The Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Va. (p. 286) lists the birth of a William Bristow as Oct. 6, 1747/8, son of John and Mary Bristow; these dates are much more plausible.
