Abel, s/o Benjamin & Hannah DAvis, b. ca.1764
Posted by: Joseph Reed Williams (ID *****9029) Date: February 04, 2009 at 11:49:31
  of 1800

Abel Davis, m. Mary Huffman d/o John Huffman [1741-1792] and his wife, Margaret. John Huffman was b. Berks Co., PA.& d. Loudoun Co., VA. Copy obtained of John Huffman's Will, D:252, 1792 notes other witnesses: Alexander McKim, James McKim and John Davis.

The History of Chester Co., PA, page 270 discusses the London Tract Baptist Church in London Britain Twp. which was a branch of the Welsh Tract Baptist Church of Pencader Hundred, New Castle Co. notes some 100 families belonged to the Church and its branches. Many names are recorded inclding: Thomas Davis, John Davis, Abel DAvis, Daniel Davis, Hannah Davis, Rachel Davis, Elenor Davis, Esther Davis along with Alexander McKim and Agnes McKim.

John Davis, Alex McKim & James McKim also witnessed the Will of John Kemlar , D:251, 1792.

Alexander McKim d. 1805, Will Book G:382. Heirs included Jeannet, wife & 8 sons and dau. Agnes. These facts may suggest several folks from the Welsh Tract & its branches migrated to Loudoun Co.

A Google search for Benjamin Davis, b. PA d. Loudoun Co. developed the following:
D Surnames
John Davis Davis, SARAH Loudoun Co., VA Will filed May
8, 1759. Bro. John Davis...William Davis s. Benjamin s.
Jesse Davis, bro David Davis d...Edward Davison s.
Charles Davison d. Sarah Davison g.s.John B. Davison.

The Index to Loudoun Wills, page 1 shows Thomas Davis, A:3,1758 - heirs, Margaret, mother; John Davis, Bro. Sarah Davis, Will A:14, 1759 - heirs Sarah Plackney-Niece,
John Davis, brother & Rachell, Niece, m. Prichett & Elizabeth Thomas, sister. Elizabeth Thomas is listed as wife of Griffith Thomas, Will F:209,1800 - Heirs: Phineas, Evan & Jacob, brothers, & Phineas, youngest son.

Abel Davis [1764-1847] was a cooper and may have been trained by Abel of East nantmeal Twp., Chester Co., PA who in 1751 accepted Benjamin Mathews to learn the Cooper trade.

This is of interest as the IGI shows Thomas Davis and Margaret as the parents of Benjamin Davis who m. Hannah, although DOB's are questionable.
