Benjamin Davis & his wife Hannah lived in Loudoun Co. during the mid 1700's. He d. testate in 1803 - Will Book G:58, 1799-1803. Legatees named include Hannah, wife, Daughers: Ann, Sarah, Rachel, Elizabeth, Gr-Dau, Martha Orison, Sons: Abel and Howell. Witnesses were Joseph White, Daniel White and Conrad Licky. The date of Benjamin's birth is not known although several dates have been ascribed, e.g. abt.1712, 1Sep1728.
The record of his son Howell is somewhat clearer. Howell was b. 7 Dec 1759 and d. in Louduoun Co. 1837. Howel (as spelled in wills index) d. 1837. He named his wife, Sarah, Daughters: Mary Tavenner, Lucinda, Amanda, Sarah Gore, Nancey Everitt & Hannah White. Sons: Joseph & Benjamin,
Grand children: William Tavennner, Richard Tavenner, Ascinda Warner Catherine Tavenner, Sarah Tavenner.
Eden White, son-in-law and Sarah Gore's 4 children.
No definitive record of Abel Davis is found in Loudoun Co. other than Third Battalion tithables recorded from 1782 thru 1805.
The earlier Family Group Record (IGI) notes Benjamin was b. about 1712 in Bucks Co., PA s/o Thomas & Margaret who m. Hannah, b.abt. 1716, of Loudoun Co., VA. Children named include: Abel Davis, b. abt 1738; Joshua, b. abt. 1740 and John, b. abt. 1742.
My G4 grandfather, Abel Davis who m. Mary Huffman was found in Monongalia Co., VA as early as 1789. An IGI record claims Abel was b.in Loudoun Co and had sons two of whom were listed sons of Abel & Mary of Monongalia Co., VA. The 1810 Census found an Abel Davis in Loudoun Co and one in Monongalia Co. so it is possible that they were father and son. Perhaps an older Abel was a brother of Benjamin.
With luck I hope to resolve the confusion.
