I don't know that this will help, but here are entries for that surname on the Loudoun Co. Personal Property Tax Lists from 1782-1799. The term Battalion was used for both militia and tax purposes and denoted a district. Only males 16 years or older would appear on the lists. The first (or only) person listed was the head of the household. Note that the surname PURSEL/PURSELL also appeared in Loudoun about the same time. The surname as spelled below did not appear on the Loudoun Tithable Lists from 1758-1781.
