Robert Aquilla Bishop of Loudoun Co. VA and Sebastian Co. AR

We are looking for information about Robert Aquilla Bishop, his wife Araminta Dorman Lake, and their children, grandchildren, etc. We would greatly appreciate any information that you can provide and any corrections you can provide to the information given below that might be inaccurate.

Robert Aquilla Bishop was born circa 1839 in Loudoun Co. VA, the son of Aquilla Bishop and Jemima (Polly) Violet. In all likelihood, he died prior to 1900 because his wife lists herself as a widow in the census of that year. Like his father, Robert A. Bishop was a farmer.

Robert A. Bishop served in the infantry and cavalry of the Confederate army in Virginia during the Civil War. There is evidence that he rode with Mosby on a few raids.

Robert Aquilla Bishop, farmer, age 27, single, living in Fauquier Co. VA, was married in Fauquier Co. VA on 15 Oct. 1868 to Araminta Dorman Lake, age 28, single, born and living in Fauquier Co. VA, the daughter of Isaac and Eleanor B. Lake. She was born 12 Feb. 1839 in Fauquier Co. VA. Robert and Araminta Bishop moved from Loudoun Co. VA to Sebastian Co. AR circa 1869-1870. Robert and Araminta Bishop had five children:

1. Lutetia (Lulu) Bishop was born in VA in circa 1869.

2. Robert Lee Bishop was born Mar. 1871 in Sebastian Co. AR and he died 14 Jul. 1929 in Sebastian Co. AR. He married May Bayless 29 Nov. 1894 in Sebastian Co. AR. She was born May 1873. Robert and May Bishop had three sons: Eugene, Joseph, and Leo.

a. Eugene Robert Bishop was born 9 Sep. 1895 in Sebastian Co. AR. He died 7 Mar. 1963 in AR. He is buried in Ft. Smith National Cemetery Sebastian Co. AR. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI from 5 Aug. 1917 until 19 Jul. 1919. Eugene R. Bishop married (1st) Grace ??? They were divorced 30 Jun. 1923 in Sebastian Co. AR. Did they have any children? He married (2nd) Eva ?? circa 1924. She died 10 Jul. 1935 in Sebastian Co. AR. They had two children: William and Robert. He married (3rd) Nancy A. Ross 8 May 1937 in Sebastian Co. AR. When was she born and when did she die? Did Eugene and Nancy Bishop they have any children?

i. William Eugene Bishop was born circa 1925 in AR. Did he die in San Bernardino CA in 1984 or Columbia Co. AR in 1986? Did he ever marry and have any children?
ii. Robert Lee Bishop was born circa 1930 in AR. Doe anyone have any information of this individual?

b. Joseph Aquilla Bishop was born 3 Apr. 1899 in AR. He died 27 Jul. 1954. He is buried in Ft. Smith National Cemetery in Sebastian Co. He served in the US Navy during WWII from 8 Dec. 1942 to 22 Oct. 1945. Did he ever marry or Have any children?

c. Leo Earl Bishop was born 29 Mar. 1900 in Sebastian Co. AR. He married Laura Bell Kilgore circa 1923. She was born 17 Mar. 1906 in Panama OK. She died 18 Mar. 1998 in Fort Smith Sebastian Co. AR. Her father was born in TN and her mother was born in GA. Lei and Laura Bishop had three sons:

i. Franklin Bishop was born circa 1925 in OK.
ii. Eugene Bishop was born circa 1927 in AR.
iii. Leo Bishop Jr. was born 23 Nov. 1927 in AR. He died 22 Nov. 1999 in CA. Did he ever marry or have any children?

3. Almirah Bishop was born circa 1872 in AR.

4. Elenora Bishop was born circa 1875 in AR.

5. Ben Bailey Bishop was born 2 May 1877 in Sebastian Co. AR. He married Minnie Bryan 15 Oct 1900 in Sebastian Co. AR. She was born in AR and her parents were born in GA. She may have died prior to 12 Sep. 1918 as Ben reports his son Louis as his closest relative on his WWI draft registration card. He is alive on 5 Jan. 1920. When did he die? Where is he buried?

a. Louis Bishop was born circa 1905 in AR. Louis (pressman at newspaper) is living with his father Ben (carpenter) at the boarding house of Burt and Matie Trapp in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. AR on 5 Jan. 1920.

We would greatly appreciate any information that you can provide about Robert Aquilla Bishop, his wife Araminta Dorman Lake, and their children, grandchildren, and other descendents. Please also provide corrections to any information above that might be inaccurate.
