Ephraim Oliphant (1717-1794/1795), the son of Duncan Oliphant (1682-1734) and Mary Garrison (1686-1687) of Hunterdon Co., NJ, was the father of my 4th great-grandfather Jno Oliphant (17501823), who m. Hannah Amos (1756-1814) in Loudoun Co., VA, in 1775. Ephraim was born in Staten Isl., NY, in 1717, and moved with his parents to East Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ, in 1721/1723. There, he m. Sarah Higgins Stout (1725-1768), of Amwell, in 1743. She was the daughter of Freegift Stout (1693-1769) and Mary Higgins (1698/1699-1773), both of Hunterdon Co. Ephraim and Sarah had 9 children. Sometime in the 1760s, they moved their family to Loudoun Co., VA, where Ephraim d. in 1794 or 1795.
