I have a MAJOR dilemna that I am hoping someone can help me shed some light on! My great-grandmother, Jincy Ann Moore, was born in Lee County VA on 20SEP1852, we THOUGHT, to Phaniry More/Moore (also spelled "Venira" on 1850 Scott Co VA census). During a phone call with my Aunt yesterday, she said that she was told that Jincy was actually a full-blooded Osage Indian whose parents were killed during a raid on their home shortly after she was born, and that the Moore family took her in to live with them, as Phaniry's wife "Arra?" (again, from the 1850 Scott Co. VA census) was either Jincy's aunt or Jincy's Mom's cousin!! A woman who used to care for Jincy in her old age told my Aunt and Uncle this many years ago. My Mom had said the same thing when she was alive, and one of Mom's cousins (now deceased) supposedly had proof of this info. My maternal grandfather, Thomas Harry Edwards, son of Jincy & Caleb Thomas Edwards looks incredibly native-american, as did my Mom & her brother Joe. Can anyone shed any light on this? Does anyone know of such a "raid" or "massacre" during the mid 1850's in Lee or Scott Co's? The Moore's & Roller's came to Christian County MO in about 1858 or so, so it would have been prior to that time. Help please!!
