I don't have the 1850 or 1860 census books.
However, I do have a few pages copied from the 1850 and happens that there is a Ridings listed on one of those.I don't know if he is related to William or not. The listing is as follows: Ridings, John 36, Susanah 28, Henry 14, Mary 12, Benjamin 6, Louisa 4, Polly 2, NC , VA. I looked in the 1870 just to see if there were any listings for Ridings and there is only one Riding(no "s" on end)listed.
It is: Riding, John R 33, Surelda J 30,
Brittain 10, Dartha 8, Lee Co., Lee Co. 263-265.
I won't be going back to the library for several weeks, but I'll make a note to look up your William. I'll get back to you if I find anything. Regina
