I have not found any of the people you mentioned in the 1880 census book. I'm giving you all that I did find in hopes you might make some connection with it.
1870 Lee Co Census:
Fortner,William B. 25, Hester W 30, Manerva J
7, John 5, Rebecca 3, Benjamin 2, Martha 10/12, MATLOCK, MARTHA 46, CHARLES 4, Lee Co.,Lee Co 36-36
Fortner, John 55, Sarah 56, Benjamin 18, Unknown Co KY, Lee Co 37-37
1880 Census
Fortner, John 61, Head KY PENN VA 250-253
Sarah 27, wife VA VA VA; Daniel 2, VA;
NO 1890 Census
I don't have the 1900 Census book
1910 Census:
Dean, Alfred Head 53 WD 4 4 VA VA VA Farmer
Sarah dau 16 S VA
Edgar son 14 S VA

Fortner,Daniel, Head 31 MD1 11 VA VA VA

Clara E dau 10 S VA
Flora E dau 8 S VA
Ennice V dau 6 S VA
Edith J dau 8/12 VA

Fortner W B Head 64 MD2 12 8 VA VA VA
E Elinger wife 54 Md2 12 8 6 5 VA VA VA
Laura dau 17 S He is listed as a Farmer

This is all that I found, the info came from the Census Books by Mark Treadway. By the date you did give me, I think the 1900 Census may yield the info you are looking for. Sorry that I've not been much help, but you may find the info helpful the further you get in you search. Good Luck, Regina
