Well, I found a WWI draft card for William Emerson Gilliam who is born 12 Feb 1890. The place of residence is Wise County, VA...which is relatively close to Blackwater. This William seems to be the son of Annie Gilliam and William P. Gilliam. It looks like they lived in Wise county, VA most of their lives. William P. looks to have died between 1900 and 1910. And William Emerson Gilliam was still single and living with his mother in the 1920 census. Some of the siblings of this William Emerson Gilliam were Wilson, Cora, Ida, Flora, and several more.
Does any of this sound familiar??
William P. Gilliam was born 1859 in VA and Annie in 1862 VA. They were married in 1879, probably in Wise county, VA or thereabouts. William P. Gilliam seems to be the son of Elizabeth Gilliam, but no father is listed, which I would think maybe means that the father died early. This Elizabeth had also a son named John B. Gilliam and he was born in 1849 and also listed as a resident in the US Veterans hospital there in Washington Co., TN in 1918...I thought that was interesting. He had fought in the Civil War.
Let me know what you think....maybe we can find out more. I enjoy helping out any way I can.
