Help finding who is George A Standerfer's (1888) Father

Hello, my name is Brent E. Standerfer. I am the proud great grandson of George A. Standerfer. George was born in Jonesville, Lee Virginia in 1888.

I have been searching to find out who my great great grand father (George’s father.) was.

I think that I have got it figured out but could use some help. I believe that John Newton Standerfer Born 1843 and lived in Jonesville, Lee Virginia is the father of George Standerfer and the un-recorded husband of Bell Standerfer (Weddle.)

“John must have had two families.”

This is how I got there. Grandma says that George’s dads name was John. There was a discovery that was made that George’s brother Ed's marriage certificate listed his father as John Standerfer which collaborates this. In many of the previous Jonesville census prior to 1900 John N Standerfer was the only John Standerfer that showed residency.
In the 1900 census in Jonesville, Bell listed her and George as day labors and noted that they had been doing it for 6 months. Bell had also listed herself as married but Head of household. (No husband listed.) There must have been a major event “Hard Times” that took place that forced her and George (at the age of 11) to work to support the family. I believe that event to be that John Standerfer moved to Oklahoma with his documented wife. If you check the 1900 census for John it will show you that’s where he was located at that time. The next clue was that in the 1920 census Bell states her married status to be widowed. Records for John showed that he died in 1920. John was 22 years older than Bell but there are too many coincidences for it not to be.

If there is anyone that can provide any more to this story please let me know. It would even be better if some how we could find that Bell was officially married to John as she noted it to be in 1881.

If any one has a picture of John it would really be appreciated. I have many pictures of George that I can compare.

Lots of love here,
Brent
