I have her in the 1930 census and her grandfather in previous census records in Claiborne Tennessee. My problem is I can't identify who her father is. Sterling had the following children according to census records: Fowler, b. 1898; Rafe, b. 1902, James, 1904; dau Vally, 1906; Laura, 1909; Essie, 1913; and Sears, 1915.
Sterling Lane had 4 sons: Fowler, Rafe, James, and Sears. The 1930 Lee Co. census lists his children James, Vally (dau), Laura, Essie, Sears, and Fowler. Fowler is married and has his wife and 2 children in the hosuehold. Opal is listed as a grandaugther and listed following Sears, the younges son, and before Fowler, the married son, indicating that her parent isn't in the household. This leads me to believe that Rafe might be the father. Rafe is the only known (to me) child that is not in the home in 1930. It is also possible that she is the daughter of one of Sterling's daughters, but all known daughters are in the home.
Fowler's youngest daughter in 1930 was 5 and born in Va, while his son was 7 and born in Tennessee, meaning they came to Va between 1923 and 1925.
There is a Rafe Lane who appears in Claiborne TN in 1930, with wife Hester and 2 sons. They had been married 4 years and the oldes son is 8 indicating that Rafe had been married before. He was born about 1902/1903, which would match the Rafe who was the son of Sterling. He is living next door to a Joe Lane, age 68, who I haven't linked to this family yet. Joe also has 2 Lane grandchildren living with him ages 4 and 18.
