Hi Leonard. I did not find George W. Tharp/Thorpe in any early Lee Co., Va records. On an LDS Family computer serch (Morman Archives I found: George Thorpe, b. 1816, Lee Co., Va, but no parents or date/place ofdeath was not listed. In ca. 1838, Lee Co., Va. he married Annie E. Sage, b, 1820, Lee Co., Va (KY?), she died 1858 MO. She was the dau./o Charle Comer Sage, b. 11 July 1797, Grayson Co., VA, died 3 Dec. 1879. In 1815, in Whitley Co., Ky he married Elizabeth Bryant, b. 22 Dec. 1795, Grayson Co., Va (parents not listed), died 1 Feb, 1844, Jackson Co., Mo. The parents of Charles Comer Sage were, James Sage, b,26 Aug. 1749, England Parents not listed), died 17 Mar. 1820, Grayson Co., Va. On 25 Dec. 1779, Grayson Co., VA. he married Lovie Ott, b. b. 5 May 1756, died 29 Aug 1854, Grayson Co., Va. She was the dau./o Sylvstr Ott b. ca. 1728, Montgomery Co., Va., died Jun. 1803, place not listed, He Married ____________? who ws b. 1722 in Montgomery Co., Va..Note: In the Early Settlers of Lee Co., VA. thre was a Benjamin Thorpe, b. 1820, Lee Co., Va., possibly the son of Fleming Thorpe, but no Geowge W. Thorpe was listed. I wonder if George and Benjamin might havae been cousins? This Benjamin Thorpe was still in Lee Co., Va. in the 1860 census. Ed Cress, Lee Co., VA. resercher.
