Mr. Cress. One of my great grandfathers was William Rivers b. April 9, 1824 who married Martha Reese, b. March 23, 1824. He died at Camp Douglas in Chicago and was buried there, after being captured in the Civil War and taken there as a prisoner.
I am interested in his son, Harve R. Rivers, born May 9, 1861, died March 6, 1934 who married America Orlena Cox on January 31, 1892 in Lee County.
Among the people researching our Rivers line, there is a controversy about his name. I have notes from researchers saying he was named Jefferson Davis Rivers at birth and changed his name. Other descendants say they never heard of this. He is listed on the census records as Harve or Harvey, and there are some that say his name was Harvey Samuel Rivers.
I have his marriage license, and it has him as H. R. Rivers. Do you have any information about him being named Jefferson Davis, or anything about his name?
P. S. Years ago, you sent me information on the Rivers and you told me that my grandmother was a Daughter of the American Revolution. I have since started going to the meetings and am in the process of proving my lineage. Thank you so much for all the information you sent me.
