John C. Bailey was born in Lancaster Co. VA ca 1800. He served when very young in the war of 1812 for a brief period. From there he went to Baltimore and New York and was early a Sea Captain. In 1827 He married Eliza Hughes in New York. They moved to New Orleans soon after marriage and were there for 15 years while he traveled the sea, often to France, sometimes with Eliza. He retired a rich man and went to Urbana VA where he bought the historical plantation "Rosegill" He died there in 1846. His estate, after Eliza's death went to Mary E. and Fannie B. Glidden of New Orleans. These two were listed as grandnieces. Any help with the life of this couple while in New Orleans would be appreciated.
Thanks, Sarah Fitzgerald
