Jesse Carter was the son of Thomas Carter III and Joanna/Jean/Jane/Joan Miller, daughter of John Miller & Margaret unknown (possibly Carter!) of Lancaster Co VA. The spelling of Joana's name varies in records.
Before moving to Pittsylvania Co VA, Jesse Carter married 2) Mary Chattin, who was the daughter of Thomas Chattin & Margeret Miller of Lancaster Co VA. This is according to Thomas & Margaret (Miller) Chattin's wills, and also the book "Married Well & Often: Marriages on the Northern Neck of Virginia". I can't remember the author right off hand, but can look it up for you if you would like. Excellent book.
Margaret Miller and John Miller of Lancaster VA were brother & sister. So Mary Chattin & Jesse Carter were actually 2nd cousins or something like that.
Jesse Carter also signed the 1755 marriage bond for his sister in law, Frances Chattin who married John Muse in Lancaster Co VA. Frances Chattin was Mary Chattin's sister.
Jesse Carter and his brother Thomas are mentioned in their grandfather's (Thomas Carter Jr who married Arabella Williamson) 1733 Lancaster co VA will.
Jesse Carter is also mentioned in the 1758 will of Margaret (Miller) Chattin (widow of Thomas Chattin), along with John Muse.
