Seeking information on Howard COX, who d. 1746 in the Middle Neck of VA. The Virginia Gazette of 31 Jul 1746 published a notice that his land -- 600 acres on the Mattaponi River, about 5 miles above the courthouse -- would be sold at auction the following October. Despite his large land holdings, Howard doesn't seem to belong to any of the known COX families in the region.

The notice doesn't specify which side of the river the land is on, or which courthouse it's 5 miles above. Five miles above King & Queen Courthouse would be near Rickahock, above the Mattaponi Indian Reservation. Five miles above King William Courthouse would be near Presque Isle and Yarbrough Ferry, south of Aylett.
