1704 Quit Rent Roll -- Robert COAKES
Posted by: Paul Phelps (ID *****9370) Date: September 11, 2010 at 17:03:43

Can anyone share a scan or xerox of the original 1704 quit rent roll for King William Co. VA? I'd like to get a definitive reading on a name that's rendered as "Robert COAKES" in the original VA Mag. Hist & Biog. publication (1924) and in several more recent postings.

I'm looking for the father of a James COX (c.1680-1739) who is known to have operated a mill in King William prior to 1720, and whose dau. Hannah COX m. 1715-1720, prob. in King William, to Henry ISBELL, whose father William ISBELL also appears on the 1704 list.

In addition, Maj. William CLAIBORNE, who likewise appears on the 1704 list, wrote a will in 1705 that mentions "my cousin Anne COAKES." She has not been identified but might be the wife of the same Robert COAKES.

Any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
