History of Berry's Wharf on Machodoc Creek?

I'm looking for information on Berry's Wharf on Machodoc Creek in King George County. It was operated by my ancestor and seems to have been an active commercial wharf at least in the 19-teens, if not later. This 1913 Army Corps of Engineers report mentions it on page 477 (http://archive.org/details/waterterminalan00engigoog) and a 1916 US Pilot's Guide on Google Books also mentions it.

I think by 1960, if not long before, it had stopped operations and now in 2012 there's almost no trace of it, although Virginia Route 615 (Berry Wharf Road) hints at what had been. Where might I go to learn more about it?
