Dear Charlene,

You're correct. "The Paynes of Virginia" indicates that John Glendenning was the only son of John and Ann (Mott) Glendenning.

James was the son of John and Phoebe (LNU) Glendenning, therefore the grandson of John and Ann (Mott) Glendenning.

James Glendenning married Margaret (Kenyon?); his 1766/7 will named three sons, James Jr, John, and George, and referred to several other children (at least one daughter) not named.

George Glendenning (my line) married Rosannah Bower and was living in Fauquier County, Viriginia by 1789.

I'm searching for information on the James & Margaret Glendenning and John & Phoebe Glendenning lines, and am willing to exchange information that I've collected.

Regards, Lisa
