Does anyone have any information on a Nancy BURTON aka Ann(e) BURTON?
The following is the reason for my request:
My 3rd great grandfather, William MURDOCK, married a Nancy BIRTON/BERTON
in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The marriage date was February 4,1788. There
is a deed subsequent to the marriage from William MURDOCK and his wife,
Anne to Francis Jett, dated March 26, 1792, recorded in Deed Book 7, Page 376,
King George County, Virginia. This deed was signed by Nancy MURDOCK therefore,
Ann(e) must have been a nickname.
A Charles BURTON witnessed the Will of Mary TANKERSLEY in 1773 in King George
County, Virginia. Mary TANKERSLEY was William MURDOCK's grandmother.
A Charles BURTON married a Jane CHAPMAN in 1770 in King George County,
Virginia. I think this Jane CHAPMAN may have been the daughter of Taylor CHAPMAN, son
of Jane (maiden name unknown) CHAPMAN MURDOCK . There Jane Chapman
was the "step" sister or half sister of Joseph MURDOCK, father of the above William
MURDOCK. Did Charles and Jane have children? Does anyone know who their children
might have been?
To me, it would make sense if the Nancy BIRTON/BERTON who married my 3rd great
grandfather was actually a BURTON and that she was related somehow to Charles
I have also found an abstract of a 1784 Pittsylvania County, VA will of Joseph
BURTON, which mentions a daughter Ann, but I have not really found anything
else. There is a Charles BURTON who consents to the marriage of his daughter,
Sally to John WEIR March 26, 1778 in Pittsylvania County. The problem with these
Burtons is that Pittsylvania County is pretty far from King George and Westmoreland
Can anyone help? Does anyone have any more information on BURTONS especially with
