Ordinaries were necessary way stations for travelers in the 1700's. Some changed hands many times and had different names. This is a list of some of the ones in James City Co VA in the 1700's.
Allen's (Six Mile), Allen's (Doncastle's), Burnt (Burnt Brick, formally called Fox's, became the town of Toano), Byrd's (Doncastle's), Cartwright's, Chiswell's, Doncastle's, Forneau's, Fox's, Rhodes', Six Mile, and Spencer's.
