Ports along the James River

Okay, I am green when it comes to Virgina. I would like to learn more about the various ports along the James River in the year 1635. My ancestor Teague Quillen (various spellings of last name) arrived in October of 1635 on the ship, the Thomas. Trying to get a feel for the the lay of the land at that time. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you. Paula G. Herron
