Many times when people move from their native state, the spelling of their name changes somewhat. There may very well be a RENN line of WRENN's in NC if you follow what I mean. Both spellings are found in NC records.

I am beginning to feel that your Josiah is not of IOW. How do you know he was born in NC? Was it from the census records? Remember, those must be taken with a grain of salt and consider the mistakes of those who took the census as well as those who gave the information.

Today I found another Josiah Wrenn who married a Frances Brown in 1796 in Surry Co VA.

This might help you a bit in the right direction. A Shadrach Renn married an Elizabeth Runnels in 1789 in Rutherford Co NC. His marriage date could make him an older brother to your Josiah.

Have you looked for a death certificate or marriage license yet in Rutherford Co? What leads you think your Josiah is from VA? Did your Josiah always live in Rutherford Co before he went to Greene Co TN? What are the names of his children? Sometimes that is a clue too. Do you know who the Cobble person is that has the Renn bible? You might want to do some looking on the Wrenn genforum as well as the Cobble genforum.
