Your transcription sounds like a great research tool. It is so generous of you to offer to share it. It would save me hours. I would really appreciate a copy.

Have you seen the entire church record at the Virginia State Archives in Richmond?

From the Lankfords you already shared, I grouped these families:

Born to Stephen & Selah Lankford
Lankford, Nathan - Born 3 May 1778
Lankford, Jonathon - Born 15 Jul 1780
Lankford, Salley - Born 8 Oct 1782
Lankford, David - Born 27 Nov 1784
Lankford, Rebecca - Born 7 Feb 1804
Lankford, Polley - Born 9 May 1811

Lankford, Willis - Received Nov 1788
Born to Willis & Kiria Lankford [This looks like it could be Kisia.]
Lankford, Jofica? - Born 6 Aug 1797 [This could be Jessee or Jessica. In the old writing the double s was written with the first s looking more like an f.]

Born to Stephen & Rhoda Lankford
Lankford, Zechariah - Born 21 May 1795

Born to Jonathon & Martha Lankford
Lankford, David - Born 27 Nov 1784
Lankford, Stephen - Born 14 Mar 1806
Lankford, Johnson - Born 22 Dec 1808
Lankford, Thomas - Born 8 Nov 1813
Lankford, Elisha - Born 15 Apr 1815

Do you think this could be the same Jonathan Lankford listed below?

Minister's Returns, Newport Parish, Isle of Wight, VA marriages:
"Marriages by Jonathan Lankford in 1819 & 1820
No dates given:
Josiah C. Bradshaw and Nancy Owen
Josiah J. Watkins and Polly Eley
Elias Beal and Edith Powell
Parker Beal and Elizabeth Gardner
Edmond Fowler and Elizabeth Parker
Arnold Ricks and Lucy Bracshaw (F. Ns)"

I think my Willis and Stephen were brothers. Willis named one of his sons Steven. [The Willis listed above seems too young to be my Willis, because his grandson, Willis was born in 1801.] The older Willis did have a son named Jesse, the oldest one listed in the land division.] I think Jonathan and the younger Stephen and possibly even the Willis listed here, were the sons of Stephen.

The archives from the IOW Co., VA mailing list can be read at
<>. In March and April, 2000, Didi Raye and Terry Johnson did look-ups from a book they had borrowed, "Isle of Wight Marriages, 1628 - 1800" by Blanche Chapman. One of the listings was
HEDGPETH, ELISHA and CHASTY DUCK September 21, 1793
Surety, Charles Roundtree; Consent of John Duck and wife Mary, and Henry
Hedgpeth and wife Elizabeth; Witness, Elisha Owen

Thanks again for helping me know where to look. Eileen
