Book 17th Century IOW by Boddie
In an account about Wm. Bennett of IOW and Northampton Co NC is the following:
On the 9th of Jan 1706/7, Robert Lawrence, son of Robt. Lawrence decd., sell to Robert Crawford of Lawne's Creek Parish, Surry, 150 acres of land granted to my father 28 Sept 1643. This Robert Crawford (Crayford) married Elizabeth dau of George Carter.
"A note about the Craford (Crayford family was furnished in 1895 by Solomon Buxton Williams. George Carter, son of William, had a daughter Elizabeth who married Robert Crawford (Crayford.) Carter Craford, son of Robert, married Sarah Swann, dau. of Matthew Swann and had Carter Crafford, Jr., who married Elizabeth Kearney, sister of Mary Kearney who married Wm. Bennett Jr., son of the above William Bennett. Mr. Williams said this info was given him by his mother."
Mention is made in a deed book that Robert Crawford sold this Lawne's Creek Neck land on the James River to John Chapman of Surry who in turn sold it to Peter Fiveash of IOW in 1734.
The only Surry deed book I have shows Carter Crawford's name listed as Crafford. This is the only spelling for this name in my book.
