Robin,
Libraries that have film of old newspapers, like Virginia Gazette etc might have this info. The paper in Williamsburg and Richmond go way back. They had news in them from all over the state, not just their county. The Library of VA online might be able to help you. What is the name of the person and in what county did the murder take place? Depending on the county, some volunteers at libraries and staff at courthouses may be able to give you some clues or info.
