Regiments of Confed. Men in Civil War

Book: Historical Notes on Isle of Wight Co VA by Helen Haverty King.

There were five IOW companies of Confederate soldiers plus the names of men who joined other units. The five IOW companies had a scattering of men from Nansemond, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, Suffolk etc. Some men lived in IOW but enlisted at the nearest courthouse which many have been in Surry for example.

1. 3rd Virginia Infantry
2. Company I, 3rd VA Inf. (James River Heavy Artillery)
3. Company E., 9th VA Inf. (IOW Blues)
4. Company D., 16th VA Inf. (IOW Grays)
5. Company A., 19th Batt. VA Artillery (Smithfield Light Artillery Blues)
6. Company F., 61st VA Artillery (IOW Avengers)
7. Surry Light Artillery

Soldiers of IOW enrolled in other counties:

1. Company F, 9th VA Inf.
2. 13th VA Calvery
3. Courthouse list
4. Hardesty's Historical and Geographical Encyclopedia (Hardesty's list)
