James P. Ferguson, youngest son of Archibald and Frances Ferguson, was raised in Patrick
Co. He married Ruth Spencer in 1849. James and Ruth resided in Patrick Co. at the 1860
Census but are found in the neighboting Horse Pasture District of Henry County in the 1870
and 1880 Censuses. I have seen a record that Ruth died in 1891 and James is listed in the
1900 Census of Henry Co. as a widower. His age is listed as 67 in the 1900 Census but
earlier Censuses indicate that he could have been 2 to 5 years older.
I have not found James P. Ferguson listed in the 1910 Census of VA and presume that he died
between 1900 and 1910. His brother, Abner F. Ferguson of Floyd Co., wrote a will in 1902
naming James as an heir. Abner's estate was not settled until 1913, following the death of his
widow, and estate records indicate that James P. was deceased in 1913 and his portion of the
inheritance was passed on to his five children; Benjamin T., John, Miney, Martha (Ross), and
Emma.
I would like to learn when James P. Ferguson died and where he is buried. Any information on
him will be appreciated.
