I am seeking information on Burchells who originated from North Carolina. In the 1830 Census of Rockingham County, NC there are 4 Burchells listed. They all disappeared after that. I was told by local historians that a wagon train left from Rockingham County to Tennessee in the mid 1800s. I would be interested in hearing from people that may have been associated with these Burchells. One particular family of Burchells that I am seeking is William James Burchell or a James William Burchell. His wife'a name is either Eliza or Louisa or possibly Laura. The last name, I am not sure about. I received information from a relative that has proven to be very incorrect. In 1850, in the Henry County, Virginia census, I found a William, it could be James, I can't recall right now, Burchell that was married to a Laura. In 1870, I find a William Burchell married to an Eliza in the Grayson County, Va area. Then in 1880, I find William widowed in Henry County. In 1868, there is a son named Granville born in Grayson County, Va. A list of Grayson County residents that fought in the Civil War reveals a William Burchell. I do not know if this is the same one. I can not find any marriage record for William Burchell, but think that it could have occurred in the Henry County area. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
