Civil War obituaries

I was wondering if the Richmond area produced obituaries during the Civil War. I have a relative, Henry Laprad (e) who died at Falling Creek in August of 1862 according to ancestry.com but his widow's pension papers say August of 1863. Don't know which is correct?
Is there any chance I might find one in old Richmond newspapers?
Thanks,
Shelley
