James Keith or Mahanas/Manuel Keith b. abt 1740, lived in Frederick Co., VA

I am seeking information about the father of James Keith, b. 1762, near Winchester, VA. The mother was Nancy Ann Hacker, b. abt 1745 in the same area. Various stories state that James's father was named James Keith, Manuel Keith or Mahanas Keith, and that he was captured by Indians in 1763 and taken to Ohio where he was kept as a prisoner/slave until about 1767, when a treaty was signed with the Indians and prisoners were released. He returned to VA to find that his wife had given him up for dead, remarried, and had children by a Mr. Claypool. James/Mahanas eventually accepted this and gave Nancy a divorce so that she would be legally married.

What happened to this man after he returned from the Indians? I can find nothing about him.

Thank-you for any help you can give me.

Mary Bishop
