I this year participated in the Southern Smiths Project. For some time it was assumed that Jesse Smith b 1765 Montgomery Co.N.C. and Gabriel Smith b 1764 in Montgomery Co. were brothers or close cousins. I am descended thru Gabriel and Gabriel Jr.
My DNA did not match the descendant of Jesse. There was a difference of 4 markers out of 27.Jesse could be the son of John or Gabriel could. Lets hope other Smith men will step up and help solve this mystery.
