In going through my files on the Lax family of Halifax County, Virginia, based upon your inquiry, I discovered an interesting fact.

Mary Lax did marry Alexander G. Younger in 1822. In 1829, six of the seven children of Joel Lax sold a piece of property to Robert Lax. (Halifax County, Virginia, Deed Book 37, pp. 375-379) One of the pairs of grantors was Alexander G. Younger and Mary, his wife.

In 1836, these same six children sold another parcel to Robert Lax. (Halifax County, Virginia, Deed Book 46, pp. 387-390). In this deed, Mary is the wife of Alexander Gordon. Apparently, Alexander Gordon Younger dropped the Younger as his last name between 1829 and 1836 and kept his middle name as his last name.
