I became interested in the Catawba Baptist Church history because in one of my ancestor's estate accounts, Robert Hurt was paid $1.50 for preaching the funeral of my ancestor. Researching Robert Hurt led me to the name of Philemon Hurt (there is a great article online about he and his family in Halifax Co.)
In the library I found a book, "History of the Baptists in Virginia" by Robert Baylor Semple. Chapter XX speaks specifically of Catawba Baptist Church. It tells of its beginnings and subsequent pastors (listed below).
Catawba was in the Roanoke Association.
Names mentioned in this section as pastors are:
Samuel HARRIS, James HILL, Nathaniel HALL, William DODSON, Philip HURT, Robert HURT, A.M. POINDEXTER, S.P. MASON, John H. LACY, William A. TYREE, Robert SAVAGE, A.B. BROWN, Whit. B. WILLIAMS, J.H. COUCH, S.H. THOMPSON, J.T.McLAUGHLIN.
