I habve the roster of yhe Elk Creek District miklitia, Montgomery County. Mine has no date. ouidasy Sept, 1782.
Lt. John McKinney and William Walling were Lts.. John Stone a Sgt. No captain.
Humphy. Burdett is listed.
If your date is correct, this particular unit did not serve in the Rev. as Cornwallis had surrendered at Yorktown in 1781. Mazny of these miliotia units continued right up to the Civil War.
It is said some miltia from Montg. joined Gen. Nathaniel Greene for battles against Cornwallis on the N.Car/Va line prior to Yorktown. However, no rosters or even list of units seem to have survived and there are no service records except applications for pensions many years later.
On tax records ca 1789-1790, I find few of the names on the 1782 Elk Crek unit. Montg. of that era was often just a "stopping-off" place for people headed to Ky. or Tenn.
Humphrey appears on no other record I have.
I research Goads. Have you evidence Hannah Goad, daughter of Abraham, married William Burdit. I have a copy of Abe's will of 1779 but it does not give a first name for the husband of Hannah "Burdit". Several families have tried to "kidnap" Hannah as their ancestor including a Burden family.(which does not match at all).
