"On August 31, 1795 John Wilks applied for a license in Bedford Co to marry Barberry Numan, daughter of Cunradh NeuMan and Anna NeuMennen )pronounced Kuhn-rod Now-man in German). The parents' consent...signed in the Old German alphabet (-Mennen being the female ending). The names were given various spellings in Viginia but were anglicized to Newman.
"...Anna NeuMennen's maiden name was Anna Margaretta Brubeck. ...born prior to 1749 near Basel, Switzerland.
I have much more forward, but surely would like to have this line back...
