In the Giles County family history book vol. 1 I found info on your family. There is a connection to the Shannons of Poplar Hill. It says that a Thomas Shannon Jr. married Juliet Allen, daughter of Thomas & Polly Brown Allen. Thomas Shannon served as a magistrate of Giles Co. and sat as a member of the county court for many years. He was more than once a member of the Virginia Legislature. At the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, he was reckoned to be the wealthiest man in Giles County. Their sons were all gallant confederate soldiers. Thomas Shannon & Juliet Allen's children: Nancy Crow b. 1829 d. 1897 m. John Henderson Bane; Thomas George b. 7-17-1822 d. 5-20-1898 um.; Mary (Polly) Haven b. 12-26-1824 d. 8-1-1906 married William Miller; William Reid b. 8-20-1827 d. 11-2-1904 married Lucy Bush; John b. 9-11-1829 d 12-31-1829; Joseph Cloyd b. 1-30-1831 d 3-22-1877 um.; James King b. 2-18-1834 d 2-4-1888 married Betty Bush; Samuel Bane b. 9-28-1836 d. 12-15-1910 married Nancy Jane King . second wife Alice Gish; Eliza Jane b. 4-5-1839 d. 8-12-1913 married James Bane Miller.

Feb. 29, 1839, Bond William B Allen and Hannah King; surety; William B allen and Charles King.

July 31, 1827, Permission - Thomas R Shannon and Salley M Allen; by Thomas Allen (father); witness: wILLIAM b aLLEN AND sAMUEL sHANNON

There is a list of Allen's in the index if you would have any dates or other info I could try to find more info. Hope some of this helps.
