Cockrill/Cockrell families in Frederick County, VA before 1760

John Cockrill was allegedly born in Winchester, VA on December 19, 1757. Unsourced material places his father as John Cockrill and his mother as Thebie Fox. It is believed that John Jr. lost his father John Sr. about the time of his birth. John Jr.'s mother may have married a second time to David Collinsworth, and possibly a third time to a man whose surname was Kells. John Jr.'s 1837 autobiographical sketch says he lost his father and stepfather early and was bound out to a blacksmith. John's 1837 Nashville, TN obituary states that he was born near Winchester, VA, where he grew to manhood. Can someone look at the early Frederick County tax rolls and deeds to see which Cockrill/Cockrell/Cottrell males show up between county formation in 1743 and the year 1760? I want to see if these records support the name of John (Sr.) for his father. Thank you in advance. Mike Clark Mikeandmaeclark@aol.com
