The "Spotswood" Browns since 1808

Does anyone know why the family of John ("Jack") BROWN and SARAH RIVES named their son born 1808 John SPOTSWOOD BROWN and thus began the trend of using the name Spottswood as a middle name for at least 5 generations; every generation following with at least 1 or more.

Were they related to the SPOTTSWOOD line?????
Or was this a simple case of paying tribute to an admired figure, which has continued all down the line for over 5 generations?
